Neighborly Don'ts
Here are some of the things you want to avoid so that things stay copacetic between you and your neighbors.
- Take up parking: This can be a big issue if you have a lot of people that come by or if you live in an apartment complex that has reserved parking. Sometimes it is your friends that will park in the wrong spots. Unfortunately, you are responsible for your friends. Be sure to clearly explain where they can park; this will help avoid any issues.
- Being too loud: If you are the type of person that likes to blast your music while working out or cleaning your house, you need to be careful. While one volume may have been fine in one neighborhood, it may not be fine in another. Depending on the thickness of the walls and how close the houses are together, your neighbor might be able to hear your music. If you are planning on having a party and you know the music might be loud, you might want to let your neighbors know about it. Let them know you are having a party and that you will try to keep things down but you can't be in front of the music the whole night. This will help your neighbors be more understanding as well. You may even want to invite your neighbors, depending on the party!
- Leave trash outside: Every now and then, you might put your garbage bag outside and have every intention of putting it away and then you forget. If you make a habit out of this, your neighbors will most likely get upset. Garbage tends to attract all sorts of animals and no one wants a bunch of animals running throughout the neighborhood.
- Act irrationally: If you have a neighbor that is driving you crazy with some of these bad habits, try to wait until you are calm to talk to them. Nothing good happens when a person is furious and screaming at someone else. You want to keep a good line of communication open between you and your neighbors, which is why you don't want to say something when you are angry. Wait until the next time you see them and confront them calmly. The results will usually be much better.
